2022 has been a fantastic year and I have been busy with many projects and collaborations since January. Here's a round-up of some of my highlights from the year that has passed and events to look forward to in 2023.
Gallery Re-hang
I am very pleased to announce that we have now completed a re-hang of my Online Gallery, featuring new and exciting works from a range of established artists. I always take great pleasure in receiving new pieces from artists and hearing about the inspiration and process behind their latest work.
Welcoming More Artists to the Gallery
I am also happy to have welcomed four additional artists to Sandra Higgins Art: journey-data and landscape painter, Luke M Walker; abstract painter, Mark Elliott Smith; multi-disciplinary printmaker, Maxine Foster; and Ruth Piper, who paints hidden and mysterious places.
Shades of Green
January 2022 saw the opening of Shades of Green, a six-month exhibition at The Royal United Hospital, Bath. Thirteen artists visited my home in Englishcombe and responded to the breathtaking landscape and nature of the area. Some of the work from Shades of Green is still available for purchase and you can view the virtual exhibition here:
From the RUH to the Sulis Hospital
I was delighted with the response to the Shades of Green show and am thrilled to say that three of the artists - Louisa Burnett-Hall, David Ferry and Pete Hoida - were selected for ongoing exhibit at the architecturally beautiful Sulis Hospital. They are still available to view so please contact me if you would like to arrange a visit.
Sandra's Salons
Throughout the year, I invited several artists and writers to deliver talks and lectures in a series of informal evening events at The Drawing Rooms - an exclusive, members-only club in the heart of Bath - of which I was visiting curator. The salons were enormously fun and offered wonderful insight into creative processes and practices.
I always enjoy bringing artists and clients together and I am organising more of these lively events for 2023.
New Visions of The Blackdown Hills Opening March 2023 at Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Honiton
March 2023 will see the launch of 'Paradise Found: New Visions of the Blackdown Hills' - a show I am co-curating with artists, Fiona McIntyre and Tim Craven. A group of 36 artists have been selected to respond to sites within the exquisite Blackdown Hills AONB, often painted by members of The Camden Town Group in the early twentieth century. The twelve artists I have invited to take part have already started making preliminary visits and I spent several great days walking with painters, Ruth Piper, Marguerite Horner and Day Bowman as they located the sites to which they will be responding for the exhibition. Printmaker, Maxine Foster, even took flight over her location to get a bird's eye view!
Coming Soon: The Viewing Room
Behind the scenes, we have been busy planning and organising The Viewing Room, which will be fully open for business in the new year. The Viewing Room will be an intimate exhibition space to view artists' work in a relaxed setting. I will also be arranging events for clients to meet artists and enjoy talks and lectures in a warm and convivial atmosphere.
Holiday Offer: 10% Off All Artists' Work
Following the success of last year's Christmas promotion, I am currently offering 10% off all work in my Online Gallery. Last year, one of the paintings purchased in the promotion, 'Georgia Swing' by Roy Osborne, made its way all the way to Colombia, where it hangs proudly in my client's Bogota home.
News of an exciting new London show in the spring - details to follow.
And Finally...
We'd like to say a huge thank you for your enthusiastic support and wish you a very happy Holiday Season! Sandra, Josie and Rebecca - the Sandra Higgins Art team!
